ABOUT THIS DESIGN
THE DESIGN
The Hollow Tombs pairs dark rocky ground with towering green-black clouds, smoky horizons and flashes of orange light. The five panels vary from murky green skies to darker storm-filled views, creating an ominous, corrupted-looking landscape.
Floor tile product photography will be added shortly.

This set includes five matching map-style backdrops, each measuring 14×10.5 in (36×27 cm), plus one matching 14×14 in (approx. 36×36 cm) floor tile.

HOW TO USE THE BACKDROPS

POSITION THE BACKDROP
Place the backdrop upright on a stand, around 5–30 cm behind the model. This gives enough separation to create a soft blur and keep attention on your subject.

MATCH CAMERA HEIGHT TO THE MODEL
Lower the camera to roughly eye level with the model for natural, immersive shots and a more convincing perspective.

FOR DYNAMIC OR ACTION SCENES
Raise the camera slightly and include more of the floor tile in the frame. This helps show movement, direction and context.

FOCUS AND DEPTH OF FIELD
Focus on the model rather than the backdrop. Use a wider aperture, or Portrait Mode on a phone, to keep the background softly blurred while the miniature remains sharp.

HIDE THE EDGES OF THE BOARD
Place terrain, scatter or additional models near visible boundaries. Breaking up the edge helps the scene appear larger and more believable.

LIGHT THE MODEL FIRST
Prioritise lighting the miniature rather than the backdrop. Allow the floor and background to sit slightly darker so they support rather than compete with the subject.

STEP BACK AND ZOOM IN
Stand slightly farther away and use roughly a 50–85 mm equivalent focal length, or around 2–3× zoom on a phone. This reduces wide-angle distortion and gives the model more natural proportions.

ADD DEPTH WITH FOREGROUND ELEMENTS
Place small objects in front of, behind and partly across the edges of the frame. These foreground occluders help create a layered, three-dimensional scene.

EXPERIMENT WITH LIGHTING
Try different light colours, angles and heights to suit the mood of the backdrop — daylight, dungeon, torchlight and similar effects.

SIMPLE ONE-LIGHT SETUP
In a darkened room, use one handheld lamp, flashlight or LED panel. Use your camera or phone timer so the light can be positioned freely while the image is taken.

BRUSH THE LIGHT ACROSS THE MODEL
Move or angle the light across the miniature rather than pointing it directly from the camera position. This can imitate sunlight, lamplight or firelight and create stronger highlights and shadows.
